HINN ANNOUNCES MOVE WEST

In a move expected for some time by observers of Benny Hinn, the controversial faith healer has officially announced a personal move for he and his family to Southern California from Central Florida. The relocation will place the televangelist closer to his ministry’s television production studio which was acquired in the mid-1990s.

The geographical move will not curtail Hinn’s role as senior pastor of his World Outreach Church (formerly Orlando Christian Center) in Florida. He is expected to “continue to preach ... once a month” at WOC, a church spokesman stated. According to an Orlando Sentinel news article, “Hinn is expected to keep a house in Central Florida, though it is not known whether he will sell his Alaqua home, which he brought in 1990 for $685,000.” His television fund-raising and post-production operations, which employ 400 workers, will also remain in the Orlando area.

While “convenience” is being cited as the primary reason for the move, Charisma magazine noted that “a ministry spokesman admits the popular healing evangelist is hoping to dodge some of the media scrutiny that has plagued him in central Florida.” In recent months, Hinn has had to endure several scandals exposed by the Orlando media, including a legal settlement, revelations of employee heroin abuse and a gag order imposed by the ministry on a former security chief.
