PROPHET TO RETIRE

The spiritual head of Church Universal and Triumphant, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, told her flock of her plans to retire in the summer of this year. The announcement came Jan. 1, at the sect’s annual New Year’s conference in Miami.

According to a news release, Prophet said, “In April, I will be 60 years old and I have been considering cutting back on my work schedule.” A year earlier she revealed that doctors had determined she suffered from an undefined neurological disorder. Last November, her physician determined the condition to be Alzheimer’s Disease, which causes mental degeneration.

Prophet says she will continue her involvement with the group, including part-time participation in the church’s quarterly conferences. She says she expects the church will advance despite her reduced involvement and says, “that she has full confidence in the current leadership to perform the spiritual and administrative duties.”

The sect is based in Corwin Springs, Mont.
